What a lovely surprise... these two beautiful 6D students visited 2M bearing gifts for us. The senior class have been working on several kindness projects this year with their teacher, Mrs Dunne. This week they came up with positive and caring posters to give out to each class in the school. When these girls popped in to give us our posters, we were humbled that we were receiving such a special gift, handmade and so thoughtfully prepared - with powerful messages about being kind to others. This coming week, we will discuss as a class how we can repay the kindness to 6D and do something nice for them. Meanwhile, the posters have found pride of place in our classroom and are hanging up next to our 2M class promise charter. Thank you so much Year 6D.

What better way to spend a rainy afternoon than finding a space to play balloon volleyball? Friday afternoon saw 2M while the time away keeping a balloon afloat, scoring points and having loads of fun at the same time. Thank you Mr. West for setting this terrific game up for us to play!
Over the past few weeks we have been reading journal entries from the book "Sophie Scott Goes South" by Alison Lester. We are immensely lucky to have Isla in our class whose father works on the Aurora Australis as a chef. We have been thoroughly enthralled by the accounts of the main character, Sophie, as she travels to Antarctica with her dad. Throughout the story we have had the benefit of Isla being able to add information and stories told to her by her father. Next month, Isla's dad is coming in to our class to give us a talk on what it is like living, working in Antarctica. We are so fortunate to be getting the opportunity to learn first hand what it is like in this extremely special part of our world. Thank you Isla for sharing your book with us.
So many awards! This week we congratulate Demi and Abbey for reaching 50 books in the Read With Me Book Club. We also applaud Naite for his steady and solid progress through levels in Synthetic Phonics word testing and Rubi for her excellent home reading record as shown in her homework book and her reading log. Well done to these deserving winners!
Recently in maths, we completed a unit of work on measurement. We cut some lengths of string and discussed how the string was a meter long (or 100 centimetres long) because we cut the lengths against our class meter ruler. The students then went about finding what in the classroom was about a meter long, shorter than a meter and longer than a meter. Take a look at 2M busy at work. Below we used really large steps, which were about a meter long, to measure how many meters it is from our classroom to the canteen. Some students with little legs discovered they could use two normal steps to make a meter. Other students observed that depending on which route you took to get to the canteen, your answer would vary.
During our Synthetic Phonics rotation groups in the mornings, one of our activities is iPads. The students use a variety of word based apps to engage in spelling and word search activities in an interactive manner. Here Laila proudly shows off her score in WordPop! What words can you find on her screen?
Chromatography is the process of separating different components from a mixture. Ms Sorrensen found a note in our classroom and the students were challenged to find out who wrote the note, Ms Sorrensen with her black pen or Mrs Morgan with her own black pen. Students experimented with their own pens and textas, with some dramatic results. See how the students test mark strips of paper and set the strips over a transparent cup of water. The paper absorbs the water and the water separates the components of the texta or pen line to reveal starkly different component part patterns, even from similar looking texts or pens. In the end, it was proven that the note in question was written by the pen of Ms Sorrensen. What did the note say?.... "I hate brussel sprouts" !
This term in sport we are focussing on athletics skills, in the lead up to our school Athletics Carnival in Week 9. Here, Jesse from 2F and Oscar demonstrate the correct way to pass a baton on in a relay race.
These three students were each awarded a merit award for taking the initiative to completely clean the COLA area of rubbish and food scraps. The girls were not asked to do this, nor are they Rubbish Buster Representatives. They simply listened to a teacher message during a recent stage assembly about the poor state of the COLA area on some days and then did something about it. Well done for being so pro-active girls!
Last Tuesday at Captain Oldrey Park, Broulee Public School participated in an AFL Skills Day. Unfortunately I was away from school this day, however Miss Taylor took the class and from all reports - the students had heaps of kick-to-kick fun as well as demonstrating lots of team building spirit. Below is a photo from the day. Thank you Ms Taylor for ensuring the children had such a great day!

A note from Miss Taylor..
Our class blog will be added to at the end of every week. Take a few minutes to check out the entries with your child and discuss what they, along with their classmates, have been learning in class over the previous week. I hope you enjoy this special account of your child's time in 2M. Positive and encouraging comments are warmly welcome! Archives
