Whenever Ms. Sorrensen takes 2M, she jumps at the opportunity to carry out a science investigation with the students. Last week, Ms Sorrensen and 2M examined the effect of warm water on skittles! Students placed different coloured skittles in a circle around a plate then poured warm water over the plate and waited. Before setting up the experiment, students had to make predictions about what they think might happen to the skittles when they reacted with the water. Ms Sorrensen lead a discussion, explained the activity then the class carried out the activity. The students completed practical reports listing their predictions, what equipment they used and what actually happened. Some of these reports earned a Gold Principal's Sticker (come check them out - they are hanging up on our classroom wall in our science display area). Students marvelled at the diffused rainbow effect created by the water leaching the colour from the outter skittles coating. Take a look at the incredible swirling patterns...

Our combined Year 2 maths activities afternoon continues this term with loads of mathematical fun! Year 2 love the opportunity to work with friends from other classes, where they can come together and peer learn in a dynamic and engaging environment.
Last Thursday, 2M hosted our whole school assembly for the first time! Our students did an absolutely wonderful job, practising, setting up the hall. professionally speaking to a large audience of teachers, students and parents and packing down the hall afterward. Students spoke with confidence and a good command of the microphone, all the while looking at the audience as much as possible while reading their scripts. Minor hiccups were dealt with independently on stage or with one student quickly helping another. Awesome work 2M - job extremely well done! Rubi, Jayden and Logan - Fishbit Organisers. The Presenting Team! Some well deserved free choice play afterward!
2M LOVE Sport! Over the past two weeks we have been participating in gross motor activity rotations, incorporating stations such as basketball shooting, skipping. bean bag throwing/catching, belly boarding, frisbee throwing/catching just to name a few! See some of the action in progress in our above gallery!
The annual Mayor's Writing Competition is underway and 2M have submitted lots of exciting entries! Our class has been busily creating composing for the Mayor's consideration, with much enthusiasm and creativity. Just take a look at just some of the titles above! This year, all entries had to somewhere include the word 'window'. Some students chose to base their whole story around a window experience, others chose a different focus, but included the word 'window' somewhere in their story as a reference. I am deeply proud of 2M's effort to produce such great writing and wish every student every success in the competition. Stay tuned for results information in the near future ...
Congratulations to Rafael and Logan, our two Week 2 Merit Award Winners! Logan is always super keen to help out students in need at our computer station - he consistently uses his IT skills and know how to assist others. Rafael produced a fantastic story cube, based on his favourite book (any book from the 13th Tree House Stories Series). Rafael loves reading and also loves to share his love of reading with others. Well done, boys!
