Chromatography is the process of separating different components from a mixture. Ms Sorrensen found a note in our classroom and the students were challenged to find out who wrote the note, Ms Sorrensen with her black pen or Mrs Morgan with her own black pen. Students experimented with their own pens and textas, with some dramatic results. See how the students test mark strips of paper and set the strips over a transparent cup of water. The paper absorbs the water and the water separates the components of the texta or pen line to reveal starkly different component part patterns, even from similar looking texts or pens. In the end, it was proven that the note in question was written by the pen of Ms Sorrensen. What did the note say?.... "I hate brussel sprouts" !
A note from Miss Taylor..
Our class blog will be added to at the end of every week. Take a few minutes to check out the entries with your child and discuss what they, along with their classmates, have been learning in class over the previous week. I hope you enjoy this special account of your child's time in 2M. Positive and encouraging comments are warmly welcome! Archives
