Recently in maths, we completed a unit of work on measurement. We cut some lengths of string and discussed how the string was a meter long (or 100 centimetres long) because we cut the lengths against our class meter ruler. The students then went about finding what in the classroom was about a meter long, shorter than a meter and longer than a meter. Take a look at 2M busy at work.
Below we used really large steps, which were about a meter long, to measure how many meters it is from our classroom to the canteen. Some students with little legs discovered they could use two normal steps to make a meter. Other students observed that depending on which route you took to get to the canteen, your answer would vary.
