Getting ready for our school athletics carnival includes marching practise. Here students from K-6 are assembled to follow instructions from Mr. Cameron on how to formation march. This is a proud annual tradition held by Broulee Public School and it is certainly a spectacular sight to see the whole school, all working together as one to march in line, under each house team banner.

Last week we were so honoured to have Mr. Chalker come in to talk to us about what it is like living and working in the coldest, driest and windiest place on the planet - Antarctica! Our class were absolutely spellbound as Mr. Chalker described the Aurora Australis (the ice breaker ship that transfers staff and researchers out to the continent), the climate, the wildlife, the crew, provisions, on-island transport, communications, history, medics and much much more. It was such a thrill to hear about such a famous but inaccessible place, from someone who has spent years working there, making sure all crew, staff and researchers eat well each day. Thank you Mr. Chalker for sharing your amazing stories and knowledge with us - we now feel a special connection with Antarctica, through learning about it first hand from yourself. Below, Mr. Chalker left us with some gifts from the souvenir ship aboard the Aurora Australis. The book on Antarctica is in our class library for children to read at anytime.
A beautiful photo of Lance and Logan, proudly holding our class thank you booklet for Amy Harrison from the Narooma National Parks & Wildlife Office. Our class wanted to thank Amy for her generous time and inspiring information on shorebird protection during a presentation to year 2, earlier on in the term. We hope Amy will enjoy our class messages and carefully drawn shorebird pictures. Thanks to Naite for designing our wonderful front cover. If you would like to see the booklet, come in to our class and take a look at the copy we made for our class library.
Recently in maths, we looked at position and direction. We used words such as above, below, left, right, around, under, over, through, opposite, beside, behind, in front etc to describe objects in relation to one another. Here, students are following directions to arrive at a certain location on a given grid. After this, students had to come up with their own directions to arrive at a position on their own grid. They decorated their grid with pictures, including a special picture for the end destination. Students swapped their work with partners to see if their set of directions could be accurately followed.
Congratulations to this week's award winners... to Elliot for working hard at making good seating choices in class, to Maxine for working more and more independently during maths activities and to Edwina for showing impressive leadership qualities during sporting games. Also, to our two new Read With Me 50 members, Rafael and Rubi! Super work, 2M!
This week we really got our hands dirty! We examined mixtures, using our sense of smell, sight and touch. We described what we could smell, see and feel. We talked about the ingredients, changes we noticed, textures and colours in the mixtures. Science is so much fun!
Congratulations to this week's award winners... we have Isla being commended for a terrific coloured peg graph she worked on with her family and sent in to me as a photo. Lance has been doing a great job at becoming a 2M UPstander and Tahlia is being acknowledged for her quick and quiet start to tasks, with no fuss. Also, we have Naite who has joined the '50' Read With Me club! Great work and great reading, 2M!
During the week we looked at place value, examining the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones value in numbers. After our learning, we celebrated with a fun game where a student had to sit on a chair facing the class. Another student wrote a mystery number up on the smartboard where the class could see. The student in the chair had to ask questions about the 4 digits written on the board (odd or even number, higher than, lower than etc). The student in the chair used the flip board to record their correct guesses and arrive at the mystery number. Look how much fun we had...

A note from Miss Taylor..
Our class blog will be added to at the end of every week. Take a few minutes to check out the entries with your child and discuss what they, along with their classmates, have been learning in class over the previous week. I hope you enjoy this special account of your child's time in 2M. Positive and encouraging comments are warmly welcome! Archives
